I used to hear this saying: “You are selling after the market has closed,” when in boarding school in my middle school years.

When students showed up after events, meetings and concerts had finished and then tried to participate or give their point to view, other students told them they were trying to sell after the market had closed. Basically, they were late and it was time to move on to the next item on the schedule or they had already moved on. They had to live with the consequences!

We all have heard the saying: “there is a time and season for everything” under sun. When we understand the cycles and rhythms of nature, life, relationships, and businesses, we stop fighting against the tide and start sailing with the wind to create great success.

There are certain things that can only be accomplished at certain times of the year, month, day and hour. The ninth hour’s energy is very different from the firth hour’s. Women have their periods (or cycle) at certain times on a twenty-eight day cycle. Men have cycles too, which most of them choose not to acknowledge and tap into. Corn grows for a certain number of days; gestation of babies is a certain number of months. Every illness has its natural life cycle, and an incubation period. You cannot burst an abscess or zit before it is ready.

There is summer, fall, spring and winter and businesses tap into that to plan for inventory and sales.

Understand the cycles and phases of nature. The trick is to know when to tap into this life cycle and then harness or harvest during the period of peak performance and productivity because this oscillation will soon change phase. For example, we know when to tap into a woman’s cycle and have a baby. You can try all you want at “off peak” times and you would only come out empty.

Learn the cycles of the things and people in your life, job and relationship and tap into that.  In the village, traders knew when to hoard produce and store for the time when the seasons would change and there would be no more produce. Then they sold all they had hoarded at exorbitant prices.

If you are in tune with the cycle and rhythm of your life and nature, the rain, snow, sun, or moon, traffic would not bother you. Instead you will learn to work with them to achieve your results. Thieves know this; they come mostly in the night or when you are at work.

When we work with the cycles and rhythms of nature we are bound to create balance and harmony in all we do.  However, the first pre-requisite to achieving this is to know yourself (which I will cover in other blogs.)  This knowledge will enable you not to sell after the market has closed.

One of the reasons geese fly in V formation is because it enables them to conserve their energy. This is because of the reduction of wind resistance created by each bird flying slight above the bird in front of him. They are working with the laws of nature! It becomes effortless and they can fly for a very long time before stopping for rest  (another cycle!)

Take a moment and examine your life and relationships in regards to some constant issues you keep having.  Are you selling after the market has closed? When we work off-rhythm we are bound to get frustrated, stressed and hence invite dis-ease into our bodies. Most illnesses result from working against the ‘wind’ and trying to brute force it. Save yourself some headache and work with the laws of nature and see how things become effortless.

Be still and know you.  Imitate Nature and create a fulfilling life.
